Karine is a Senior Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist. She has been teaching since 2007 and specialises in synchronised breath-focused yoga practices for wellbeing and targeted therapeutic practices designed for individual healing.
Karine has studied Yoga Therapy in Australia and India and has since returned to Chennai to undertake several internships for greater insights and learning. She is a graduate of the Yoga Institute with a 1000 hour Yoga Teacher Training Diploma in the Krishnamacharya ... tradition. Karine completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy with Yoga Therapy Australia (YTA) and Yoga Vaidya Sala (YVS) led by the teachings of Dr NC and Saraswathi Vasudevan, two of the world’s most experienced and sought-after yoga therapists.
Since becoming qualified in Yoga Therapy in 2014, Karine’s has worked with her clients to address specific concerns at physical, emotional and spiritual levels. With each client, she undertakes an individual assessment, co-identification of healing goals, and design of a daily Yoga Therapy practice to incorporate into their daily routine to replace old habits and facilitate self-healing. During Yoga Therapy, Karine often discovers more than the initial presenting physical issue and focuses on identifying the underlying concern and addressing the cause.
As a yoga teacher, Karine practices gentle Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga focusing primarily on flow and breathing while incorporating guidance for individual healing.
After pursuing a career in research, advocacy and community development, and after years of practising yoga, she decided to embark on her journey to become a yoga teacher (and later a yoga therapist) in her 50s.
In 2015, Karine was appointed as the President of the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists and remains their current President. She was a founding member of the Global Yoga Therapy Consortium in Japan in 2017 and the Yoga Therapy Declaration in Sendai.
Karine practices from her studio in Sydney and has valued working in a supportive community of dedicated yoga practitioners. One of the many things that Karine most enjoys about yoga is that “as you give, you receive”. She loves feeling the energy of others blossoming and witnessing their transformation.
Karine’s work is to catalyse self-healing in others, engaging with those turning to Yoga Therapy to precipitate healing and enhance understanding of self and genuine wellness.
Her aim within the Yoga Therapy community is to progress mutually identified goals that reflect recognition of this powerful pathway for attaining total wellness. Read more
