Offering a calm and safe environment to just be, without judgement or ego, Carmel asks her students to find and face the challenges on the mat, so that they may live their lives effortlessly. Her classes and therapy sessions are challenging and uplifting as she takes her students beyond the physical aspects of yoga and brings them into their own sacred space. Carmel believes that gentle movement brings about a sense of stillness, which helps people to reconnect with themselves. Her trauma-informed class focuses on injuries and gives clients the freedom to slow down and focus on healing and strengthening their bodies. In her classes for older people, Carmel says the gains are phenomenal, with improvements in strength and balance as well as the emotional and social support these classes give them. Offering a different kind of yogic challenge, Carmel’s “Great Yoga Wall” extends people beyond what they think they can do physically and mentally, taking them out of their comfort zone and creating a new level of confidence. Carmel’s private yoga therapy consultations help to integrate the mind, body and spirit through yoga postures (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation (dhyana) and guided imagery. This therapy is beneficial for physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Describing herself as an eternal student of yoga, Carmel loves to study to keep expanding her knowledge of all things yogic to share with her students. Yin Yoga is an introspective yoga practice that offers us time & space to turn inward & nurture the calm, quiet centre that is innate in all of us. It is a practice in stillness, patience & non-reactivity, improving our flexibility & ability to respond to stress & dis-ease. Yin Yoga is a slow practice, allowing connection with mind & soul, to find & know ‘you’, your deepest self. Helping to guide you through all the challenges & journeys of life. Combining aspects of Buddhist mindfulness practices, Chinese meridian theory & classical yoga to create a deep experience of letting go. In holding grounded poses for an extended time, the fascia, the body’s interconnected energetics, begins to relax & release long-held tensions stored in the body & mind, helping to open the body, focus the mind & nourish the soul. Our Twilight Yin sessions, held the 1st Friday of most months, are a wonderful way to finish the week. As the name suggests, held in semi-darkness to help facilitate introspectiveness & self-examination. Please allow 95-minutes for these sessions, consisting of an 80-minute practice & 15-20 minutes afterwards to enjoy a cup of tea & chat before leaving.
