Olivia Gowans – Social Worker, Counsellor, Facilitator & Writer Olivia Gowans is an experienced social worker, counsellor, and writer with a strong background in supporting individuals and communities across diverse and complex sectors. Over the past seven years, she has worked within not-for-profit and community organisations in areas including mental health, crisis domestic and family violence, sexual assault, housing and homelessness, employment support, and services for asylum seekers and refugees. With a Master’s qualification in Social Work, Olivia brings an adaptable, trauma-informed and holistic approach to her practice. She considers the full context of each person she supports—mind, body, spirit, family, community, and culture—ensuring her work is grounded in both professional rigour and deep empathy. Her methods draw on psychological interventions, body-based awareness, spiritual practices, and creative modalities, tailoring each session to the unique needs of the individual. Alongside general counselling, Olivia facilitates art therapy sessions that use poetry, writing, movement, painting, and flower therapy as tools for expression, healing, and self-discovery. She is passionate about the transformative role of creativity and spirituality in wellbeing, and integrates these elements into her work wherever they serve her clients best. Olivia has extensive experience supporting both young people and adults, including individuals living with disability and chronic health conditions. She has helped clients to navigate and reduce the impacts of trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD/neurodivergence, and low self-worth—empowering them to cultivate resilience, emotional regulation, and renewed confidence. Grounded yet intuitive, Olivia’s approach is centred on collaboration and safety. Her sessions provide a supportive environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to access the tools within themselves to create meaningful change. Read more
