Being born a Nyangbal man and father of five, Kris believes he has a cultural responsibility to share his stories and customs with visitors to his Country. Having grown up and lived on Country all his life, Kris feels blessed to have acquired the knowledge of his ancestors passed down through the generations of Cook men. Nyangbal country is of high cultural significance. Many of his ancestors’ continuing practises and customs are still visible today, handed down through stories, places and language. He says that part of being on Country is connecting with nature, ancestors, ancestral beings and your surroundings. With the knowledge passed on to him, Kris is willing to share the customs and practices of his old people to create awareness and acknowledgement of the oldest and continuing culture in the world. Kris began offering the guided walks in 2019 out of a desire to increase people’s understanding of the area and to encourage reconciliation in the community. He is a co-owner of his business, Yidabal Galii Maa, meaning “making of a good spirit”. Kris loves being able to share the ancient history of the area as he honours what came before him, and seeing people’s knowledge grow. He looks forward to welcoming you to connect with Country in beautiful Ballina. Read more
