Bernie is a yoga and meditation teacher who is passionate about helping women overcome emotional or dysfunctional eating and reconnect with themselves. Her approach is to focus on the root cause of why women first develop an unhealthy relationship with food and their bodies, with the aim of creating real and lasting change. Bernie’s own experience with an eating disorder in her youth and her 15 year, personal yogic journey eventually inspired her to become a teacher. When she thought about all the gifts yoga had given her, she decided she wanted to apply this information to women who suffer emotional eating and are stuck in a negative cycle of body image, by providing a guide to find wholeness in a society that teaches the opposite. She believes yoga connects you to your body, and her work aims to align the physical, energetic and mental body. She helps you drop into a true feeling state and release the emotional body, while also understanding the layers of the mind and why we do what we do. Bernie has trained with some of the best teachers in the world and the practice of yoga and meditation has taught Bernie the art of slowing down in order to meet whatever life brings with a calm centre. Yoga helped Bernie to see her own actions without judgement and she works to impart this sense of safety in her own classes. She creates a space for her students to heal when they’re truly ready, when they are not trying to please everyone and ready to be comfortable with exactly where they are at. Once people step off the roller coaster and come back to themselves, she explains, things really start changing for them. Bernie is offering a nine-week online course for women about attitudes to and relationship with food and body, to address the underlying problem of overeating and food addiction; and how to use yoga to heal. She says emotional eating is often a symptom of an underlying unmet emotional need. The nine-week program is designed to understand the underlying cause that creates this symptom, and provide the tools and practices to safely and compassionately create real change. Yoga is an incredible tool to help people understand their subconscious needs and Bernie says she loves seeing the transformation in people when they stop wasting their energy fighting with food and become the best version of themselves, stepping into their joy.
