Healthy Living

What does healthy living mean to you?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, health is the state of being free from disease or injury.

But really, the idea of health is so subjective. For someone dealing with a medical condition, healthy living may simply look like completing a walk around the block. For others, it may be an alkalising green smoothie for breakfast every day.

What’s clear is that as a society we are gradually moving away from the idea of health as the lack of certain abilities or the presence of illness, but an active and preventative approach to areas of life that support our wellbeing and bring us joy. This approach is one recognised by the World Health Organization, who defines health to be “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”

If you’re here, it’s likely that you agree with this more holistic approach to healthy living – so do we.

At SoulAdvisor, healthy living to us looks like:

A journey. To us, living a healthy life is not following a pre-determined template, but a search for the tools that work for you, and that lead you to of place of connection and acceptance of self.

We’re also firm believers in the link between health and happiness. It’s not absolutely clear whether being healthy makes you happy or vice versa, but there’s evidence for benefits flowing in both directions.

Old lady healthy living

Research has shown that happy people are more likely to choose healthy behaviours, which leads to improved wellness outcomes. In turn, there is evidence that what we eat can impact our mood and promote happiness.

Whichever comes first, we love the benefits. We’re here to help you achieve these too, in a way that resonates with you.

What to expect...

In this section on healthy living you can expect to see honest stories, advice and thought-leadership on topics such as:

  • Healthy AgeingTime waits for no one, but if we stop to think about it, what most of us really want as we age is not wealth or beauty, but good health – which in turn allows us to build memories. Our articles share how you can nourish your body and support it to age gracefully from the inside out.

  • ImmunityA robust immune system is the building block for health, and the good news is that there is a lot you can do to nurture it. If your immune system could use some help (think getting sick easily, lots of stomach upsets or slow-healing wounds), we have tips for you.

  • Integrative HealthIntegrative health is the future of the health and wellness industry. It combines conventional western medicine with the richness of traditional and complementary medicine, with the aim of achieving inside-out health.

  • Movement: Movement may be the most common piece of advice regarding health, but we’re not here to tell you to go running or hit the gym (you already knew that). Instead, we’ve got information on less-discussed but arguably more fun ways of getting your movement in – dancing meditation or stretch therapy anyone?

  • NutritionThe body of evidence on the impact of food on our physical health, skin, sleep and cognition is only growing. Read on if you’re even a little interested in how your food can make you feel better – we have articles for the person wanting to dip their toes into eating more whole foods, to those wanting to take the next step and learn how to tailor the pH levels of their diet.

  • Sleep: It’s the next wellness trend, and with good reason. We all know how much better we feel after a great night’s sleep, and the science continues to stack up on the importance of sleep for our physical body and cognitive restoration. Learn more about your circadian rhythm and why you should limit your exposure to blue light

We hope these facets of healthy living resonate with you. Healthy living is so personal, like a puzzle - with each person’s puzzle being unique and requiring different elements for completion. So if you have stories to share or there are other elements of healthy living you’re interested in, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’re searching for more on any of the above topics or for extra support on your wellness journey, have a look through our Therapy section where our articles give you the evidence-based benefits of relevant traditional and complementary therapies and allows you to search by symptom.

When you’re ready to take the next step, book a free discovery call with the therapist of your choice and let us help you on this journey to healthy living.
