A Day in the Life of a Colon Hydrotherapist

People often ask what I “do,” and I find myself smiling—because the truth is, it’s not just one thing. I work as a Colon Hydrotherapist, a Naturopath with a passion for herbal medicine, and an Energy worker.
My days are filled with fluidity, healing, and holding space in different ways for different people. And while the tools vary, the intention is always the same: to guide others back to their own inner wisdom and balance.
However, when people hear I do Colonics, I usually get one of two reactions: curiosity or surprise. Colon hydrotherapy isn't exactly a dinner-table topic, but it’s a deeply rewarding profession that combines physical care with emotional support. Every day, I get to help people feel lighter—literally and figuratively
Starting the Day: Cleanliness and Calm
My day usually starts around mid-day. I arrive at the clinic before clients do so I can prepare the treatment room. I cleanse the treatment space—not just physically, but energetically. I diffuse essential oils, play grounding music, and create a calm atmosphere.
Hygiene is the foundation of everything I do, so I begin by disinfecting all surfaces, checking the hydrotherapy machine, and making sure all supplies—towels, filtered water, tubing—are fresh and in place. There's a quiet rhythm to this routine that I enjoy; it's a peaceful way to ease into the afternoon.
I always take a few minutes to ground myself, too. Colon hydrotherapy can be deeply personal work, so showing up calm, present, grounded and receptive is part of what makes the session successful for my clients. No two clients are alike, and each deserves my full attention
This space isn’t just where treatments happen—it’s a sanctuary. My goal is for each person who walks through the door to feel seen, safe, and supported
Meeting Clients: Every Body Tells a Story
Each client has their own story, and that’s part of what keeps this job fascinating. Some are new and a bit nervous; others are regulars who swear by hydrotherapy as part of their wellness routine. I start each session with a consultation to check in on how they're feeling—physically and emotionally—and go over any changes in digestion, diet, stress, or medications.
The body often reflects what’s going on in the mind, so even though my focus is on digestive health, the conversations often go deeper.
So much of what we carry in the gut is tied to stress, grief, and tension. Colon hydrotherapy, in my experience, is more than a physical cleanse; it's often a gateway to emotional release.
The Session: Gentle, Professional, and Attentive- the art of release
The therapy itself is gentle and respectful. I use a closed system that allows warm, filtered water to flow into the colon in a controlled way. I’m there the entire time, monitoring pressure, temperature, and the client's comfort.
I begin each session with a guided breathing exercise that is encouraged all throughout the session to support the nervous system and relaxation.
Inhale, creating space and expansion. Exhal,e softening, releasing tension
Along with abdominal massage with essential oils and hot stones to help stimulate peristalsis and to further ease any tension, and promote release through the large intestine.
It's a delicate balance—supporting detoxification while holding space for whatever arises, physically or emotionally.
There’s a misconception that the experience is painful or embarrassing, but clients often tell me they’re surprised by how relaxing it can be. Many leave the session feeling lighter, clearer, and more energised.
Afterwards, we debrief. Education is a huge part of what I do. I may also provide recommendations—hydration, light diet changes, or natural supplements to support their digestive health. I love helping people reconnect with the intelligence of their bodies and understand that healing isn’t about quick fixes—it’s about tuning in, day by day.
Holding Space: The Emotional Side of Healing
Many people walk through my door carrying more than digestive issues. Some are recovering from trauma, burnout, or long-term stress. Others just feel stuck. My role isn’t to “fix” them, but to help them remember that the body wants to heal—it just needs the right support.
Colon hydrotherapy can be deeply vulnerable, so trust is everything. Clients often leave not just feeling lighter physically, but mentally clearer. That moment when someone sits up and says, “I didn’t realize how heavy I felt until now”—that’s why I do this work.
As an energy worker, I’ve learned to stay attuned to subtle shifts—within clients and myself. I may run Reiki or channel healing energy during sessions if the client is open to it.
Between Sessions: Reset and Reflect
After each appointment, I carefully clean, clear and reset the room, sanitise the equipment, and take notes on the session.
The Bigger Picture
What I do goes beyond the physical. So many people carry around discomfort, sluggishness, or emotional heaviness without realising how connected it all is. Colon hydrotherapy isn’t just about elimination—it’s about awareness, reset, and release.
I feel honoured to do this work. My clients trust me with a very private part of their health, and that trust is something I never take for granted. At the end of the day, I might be tired—but it’s a good kind of tired, the kind that comes from knowing you helped someone feel better in their own body.
Being a Colon Hydrotherapist and Naturopath is a calling. It’s not glamorous, and it’s definitely not conventional—but it’s real. It’s deeply human. I get to witness transformation every day, and that’s a privilege I don’t take lightly.
