Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom

"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom."–Aristotle

When Reiki first came into my life, I didn’t know it would change me forever.

It all began in a dance class. There was this fellow dancer who caught my attention—not because of how he danced, but because of the peace and glow he carried. He looked calm and content. I don’t even remember his name now. All I know is that he was an angel who pointed me toward a path that completely changed my life.

He shared how Reiki had helped him sort his life and find peace. I was 31 at that time—married, but still so lost and unsure about myself and life. I thought, “It can’t harm me to try.” The idea felt exciting. I wanted to see what it could bring to me.

So without even experiencing a session, I called up a teacher and joined the class. That’s how my journey with Reiki began.

My First Experience

During my initiation into Reiki, something deep inside me moved. I started crying uncontrollably. I couldn’t stop. I kept wondering—what just happened?

I’ve always been an emotional person, but this time the crying felt very different. It wasn’t from sadness. It felt like something was being released.

That’s what Reiki does—it moves energy, clears what’s stuck, and opens the heart in a way nothing else can.

When Healing Brings Up the Mess

Growing up wasn’t easy for me. My childhood had many challenges, and all those experiences made me sensitive, touchy, and complicated.

After Reiki came into my life, things didn’t suddenly become easy. In fact, they got tougher. It felt like every old wound, every memory I had buried, was coming to the surface. All my unresolved pain and trauma were right there, looking straight at me.

But somewhere deep down, I knew—I had to face them. I had to untangle myself and find who I truly was.

Learning About Myself

Slowly, I started working on myself. I began to understand my own nature—who I was, what I liked, what I didn’t, how I reacted, how I could express myself better.

I also realized something very powerful: the people who come into our lives are mirrors. They reflect what we need to see within ourselves. They press our buttons until we finally learn to deal with what’s inside us.

Bit by bit, I started becoming more peaceful and simple. Life started to feel lighter.

Breaking Open to Become Whole

I didn’t understand why all this was happening then. But now I know—it was life’s way of breaking open the old me to create a new one.

All that pain and confusion were helping me rebuild myself—so that I could live with more peace, joy, and clarity.

It truly felt like being reborn. Suddenly, I could see life clearly for the first time. I became a student of life—and life has been teaching me ever since.

Making Peace with My Shadows

Reiki opened me up. It created me.

Had it not been for Reiki, I would never have known myself this deeply. The journey has had many twists and turns. It has taken me to the darkest corners of my being—but only to bring light there.

I learned to make peace with my shadows—the parts I had always run away from: fear, pain, guilt, anger, rejection, betrayal.

For a long time, I tried to hide from them. But you can never outrun your shadows. One day, I decided to stop running. I turned around and faced them, even though it was scary.

And slowly, I saw what they were trying to tell me. Each shadow carried wisdom and light.

The Journey Continues

Reiki was just the beginning. As I grew, other modalities came into my life—each one supporting me, guiding me, and propelling me further on this path of healing and self-discovery.

Today, I am in a place of such ease and comfort within myself. I feel grounded, peaceful, and aligned. The storm that once felt endless now feels like a distant teacher that showed me who I truly am.

Still Learning

It's been more than 23 years but I am still learning. Every single day.

Now I know—I am my only competition and my only companion. Only I can break or build myself.

So, I chose to build myself.
And today, every single day, I choose to see the light in every situation.
To love and accept even the parts of me that feel dark.

Because there is no light without darkness.

Reiki didn’t change my life overnight — it gently unveiled the parts of me I had forgotten, guiding me back home to myself.
