A Day in the Life of a Colour Therapist

One of the most unforgettable experiences in my practice began with a baker who came for a consultation, encouraged by a friend who knew he needed some support. In his colour selection, the “blockage” column came back as red, red, red. Immediately, I sensed possible health issues, though I was unsure how to share this. I gently suggested he slow down, as he was clearly overworking. He insisted he couldn’t. Just a week later, his daughter came to see me—her father had suffered a heart attack. He was so shaken that he sent his entire family to me for colour sessions.

Moments like these remind me of the extraordinary power of colour. Since discovering their potential in the 1990s, I have been in love with the way colours reveal what lies beneath the surface. We might think we are choosing them innocently, but in truth, the unconscious is speaking—bringing deep issues to light.

No two days are ever the same. I usually wake around 6 am, urged out of bed by my hungry dog and my cat, who has been curled up on me through the night. My husband sleeps a little longer while I check my diary and emails, and take a look at my Facebook page, Upwardspirale. Right now, I’m organising a week of courses in Bali for October 2025, covering Level 1, Level 2, and spiritual development.

Mornings are my favourite time for client sessions, whether in person or via Zoom. Before a session, I carefully prepare my colour kits, ensuring every hue is bright and vibrant. Colours can sometimes lose their brilliance during intense sessions—almost as if they have absorbed the energy of the issue that surfaced. Once, during a client’s recall of a difficult past life, a little colour bottle began to leak—as though it too was crying. It needed to be refilled afterwards, a striking reminder of how alive and responsive these tools can be.

My husband takes the dog out daily, rain or shine, and I treasure that quiet time for meditation and reconnecting with my spirit guides. Afternoons are often spent preparing presentations for my Upwardspirale courses, which run online every Wednesday with students from across Australia. Though technology can be challenging—Zoom seems to present a new obstacle each week—the joy of teaching outweighs the frustrations.

What I love most about this work is the freedom it offers and the way it transforms lives. Colour therapy helps people move from confusion and depression into clarity and light. It has certainly transformed mine, and it is my privilege to share its blessings with others.
