Isabelle is a yoga teacher trained in the Iyengar tradition with more than 20 years experience and a deep interest in yoga therapeutics, philosophy and movement therapy. Striving to connect deeply with her students, her focus is on providing a safe and supportive platform for learning in order to foster body awareness, a healthy body-mind relationship and greater freedom and ease of movement for more conscious and joyful living. She believes the body is the entry point to greater understanding - mentally and psychologically, and that connecting with our bodies at a deeper level is the way to a calmer and more reflective mind - to greater peace. Isabelle says her students become more attentive and more self-aware as they progress, with the greatest change being more openness. The protective barriers that they put around themselves drops and they are more open to receiving assistance and feedback. Her students report better sleep, less stress, common aches and pains dissipating and an overall sense of calm, feeling more freedom physically and mentally. Isabelle was previously a professional dancer and her approach is greatly informed by her understanding of movement principles and yoga therapeutics, as well as exposure to various somatic modalities. Witnessing the transformative powers of yoga in her students and the difference it makes to their lives gives Isabelle great joy and inspiration. Yoga is a process that provides a structure for growth, Isabelle says, and she can see that people who commit to the practice long-term gradually change as they establish a deeper connection with themselves and with everything around them – their family, friends, work and the world in general. Ultimately, she thinks they become kinder. Read more

It is named after BKS Iyengar, who developed the practice and its systematic and comprehensive approach to learning yoga. The emphasis on integrated alignment and progressive learning is central to the practice. Poses are practiced in repeated weekly cycles to help build understanding and confidence and they include standing poses, forward bends and twists, backbends and restorative poses. Props are often used to assist with stability and balance. Inversions such as head stand and shoulder stand (or a modified version of these) are introduced gradually and always in accordance with students’ capacity and progress. Pranayama (breathing techniques) are often incorporated in to restorative classes. Read more
