Healing the Hoop of the People

Presented monthly by SoulAdvisor

Inspired by the vision of Black Elk (Heȟáka Sápa), the Oglala Lakota holy man who spoke of mending the broken hoop of the nation, this monthly SoulAdvisor series honours the call to restore balance and right relationship among all beings.

Each month we explore the healing wisdom of a different nation—where traditional and modern approaches meet to illuminate what wellbeing truly means.

With gratitude to Black Elk, the Lakota Nation, and all First Peoples, we walk in the spirit of shared understanding and collective healing.

Bring your curiosity, your questions, and your heart—because the health of one is bound to the health of all.

Romania: Healing Nation – What Might We Learn

Step into the heart of Romania — a land where healing, nature and tradition intertwine — for the inaugural event in SoulAdvisor’s new global series Healing the Hoop of the People.

Romania’s healing heritage runs deep: from the mineral-rich waters of Baile Herculane to the herbal medicine of the Carpathian Mountains, from Apitherapy (the therapeutic use of bee products and micro-stings) to the Gerson Technique and a wide range of state-approved complementary therapies that sit uniquely within the national health framework.

Join us as five extraordinary Romanian healers, cultural thinkers, and integrative practitioners share stories, insights, and visions — exploring how ancient practices are finding new expression within a modern healthcare landscape that now formally recognises more than 40 complementary and alternative therapies, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, yoga, reflexotherapy, homoeopathy, and electromagnetic therapies.

This is not a lecture — it’s a living conversation. Bring your questions, curiosities, and wonder.

Whether you are a wellness practitioner, seeker of integrative health, student of culture, or simply curious about how tradition and innovation meet in the service of healing, this event is for you.

Reserve your spot now on the SoulAdvisor Events page.

To learn from a healing nation is to expand our map of what’s possible.

Some Facts about Romania

  1. Transylvania isn’t a myth — it’s a real region in central Romania: Nestled between the Carpathian Mountains, Transylvania is not only the legendary home of Dracula but also one of Europe’s most picturesque and biodiverse regions. Its medieval towns, fortified churches, and untouched forests make it feel like time has stood still — a rare blend of myth, mystery, and mountain majesty.
  2. Romania shelters Europe’s largest remaining wilderness: Over 60% of Europe’s virgin forests — including the vast Carpathian range and the Danube Delta — lie within Romania’s borders. These landscapes are home to wolves, lynx, brown bears, and hundreds of bird species, offering a glimpse into a Europe that existed long before industrialisation.
  3. It’s the crossroads of East and West, where Latin roots meet mystical traditions: The Romanian language evolved from Latin, making it the only Romance language in Eastern Europe. Yet its folklore, music, and healing rituals are deeply infused with Dacian, Slavic, and Byzantine influences — a cultural tapestry unlike anywhere else on the continent.

3 Compelling Wellness Points about Romania

  1. The ancient Dacian Empire was once a renowned centre for healing: Long before the rise of Rome, the Dacians — the ancestors of modern Romanians — were known across the ancient world for their sacred healing practices. The Greek historian Herodotus (c. 484–425 BC) wrote that the Dacians “believe themselves immortal” and followed the teachings of Zalmoxis, a philosopher-healer who taught that harmony between body, mind, and spirit was the key to health. Pilgrims travelled to Dacian sanctuaries, especially around Sarmizegetusa Regia, to seek natural and spiritual restoration — a tradition that still echoes through Romania’s wellness culture today.
  2. Romania’s healing waters run deep — literally: With over 130 natural hot springs and mineral spas, Romania has one of the richest concentrations of therapeutic waters in Europe. Towns like Băile HerculaneSovataTusnad, and Băile Felix have been famed for centuries for their curative baths rich in sulfur, magnesium, and thermal minerals that soothe arthritis, skin conditions, and stress-related ailments. The Romans once bathed here; today, both locals and travellers come to “take the waters” in much the same way.
  3. Romania’s healthcare system embraces traditional and modern medicine side by side: Romania is recognised for having one of the most integrated Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Healthcare (TCIH) systems in Europe. Its Ministry of Health officially acknowledges over 40 traditional and complementary modalities, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, apitherapy, homoeopathy, and balneotherapy (mineral-water therapy). This integration allows patients to access both medical and natural treatments within hospitals and wellness clinics, reflecting a long-held national belief that healing must address body, mind, and spirit together.
